The Unity of Life: Whiteman Park

The Unity of Life: Whiteman Park

Penelope Forlano

Title: The Unity of Life: Whiteman Park

Artist/s: Penelope Forlano

Year: 2024

Site: Whiteman Park Station

Location Detail: Artwork is integrated into sections of glazed skylights, centrally positioned in the main station roof/ceiling.

Medium: Ceramic print on glass

Description:

The skylights across the Ellenbrook train line form a suite of artworks dedicated to revealing the interrelationships of all living things across these areas. Marcia McGuire explored the indigenous social and ecological interdependence for Ellenbrook and Ballajura, while Penelope Forlano focused on the ecological interdependence of the flora and fauna for Whiteman Park, Morley and Noranda.

The Whiteman Park skylight artwork features two endemic mammals once in abundance in the region, the Grey Kangaroo and Woylie. These mammals have been illustrated with the equally prolific Flooded Gum (Eucalyptus rudis or Colaille or Koolert in Noongar) reflecting the dynamic and mutual reliance and unity of all living things.
