Scarborough Beach Surf CAT drops into service

Scarborough Beach's new free Surf CAT bus will begin passenger services from tomorrow, making it easier than ever for locals and tourists to enjoy one of Perth's premier beaches.

The Surf CAT is a free, high-frequency daily bus service that will run every 10 minutes for most of the day, giving users the opportunity to hop on and off at their leisure.

Running regular services from early morning until late at night, it will operate between Stirling Bus Station and Scarborough Beach via Cedric Street, Ellen Stirling Boulevard, and Scarbough Beach Road, with an end-to-end journey of about 20 minutes.

As well as a brightly coloured blue exterior that will make it easy to identify, the Surf CAT also includes dedicated space for surfboard storage, providing a convenient transport option for all types of beachgoers.

The State Government allocated $17.8 million in this year's budget towards delivering the new service.

This included new bus lanes, two new bus embayments on West Coast Highway, as well as accessibility and congestion-busting improvements to the West Coast Highway/Scarborough Beach Road intersection.

Additionally, route 410 and 412 bus services have been extended to Karrinyup Bus Station, which will create a stronger north-south bus link by improving access between Scarborough and Karrinyup.
