Pedestrian Level Crossing Upgrade Program
Work is underway to ensure that all pedestrian level crossings across the Transperth network are fully compliant with current Disability and Discrimination Act (DDA) standards.
The PTA is responsible for 100 pedestrian level crossings across the Perth metropolitan area on the Fremantle, Midland and Armadale lines. All crossings within the electrified Transperth network are fitted with the highest level of control, known as active controls, which include flashing lights and audible alarms to alert pedestrians of approaching trains, as well as gates to prevent access onto the tracks.
While pedestrian level crossings are safe if used correctly, they are considered the most significant hazard on any railway network due to either accidental or deliberate misuse. Until pedestrian level crossings are removed from the network, the PTA will continue to ensure their safe management, maintenance, and operation.
Station Accessibility Works
The PTA is undertaking an ongoing program of work to improve accessibility for passengers at stations across the public transport network. In accordance with the Disability Discrimination Act 1992, a range of minor works will be carried out to improve access to Transperth services for all passengers, regardless of their mobility requirements.
The program includes:
- Installation of signage
- Remediation of existing stairs
- Installation, replacement, or extension of handrails
- Installation or replacement of tactile paving
- Creation of accessible car bays and road-marking
Warwick Station Bridge Rectification
The PTA are undertaking works to replace a concrete pillar
below the pedestrian bridge at Warwick Station. There is no anticipated impact
to the use of the pedestrian bridge throughout these works.
Train Station Retiling
Works are ongoing to retile a number of train stations across the Transperth network. The project includes the retiling of floor and wall tiles at multiple stations to ensure they meet non-slip safety requirements.
Signage will be in place to safely direct passengers around the work site during construction. While every effort will be made to minimise impact, there might be some disruptions such as noise, dust and vibrations.
