Bus services boosted thanks to Byford Rail Extension
Bus services in the southeast of Perth are set for a boost, with additional buses and enhanced routes being put in place to support the new METRONET Byford Rail Extension when it opens next month.
Ten additional buses and nearly half a million annual bus service kilometres will be added to the network, with six routes to connect to the new Byford Station.
The enhanced bus network will begin operation on 13 October - the day Byford Station and the outer section of the Armadale Line open to the public.
The new and amended routes include:
- amended route 251 operating between Byford Station and Armadale Station via Wungong;
- amended route 254 and new route 255 operating as circular routes between Byford Station and western Byford;
- new route 256 initially operating as a circular route between Byford and southern Byford;
- new route 259 operating between Byford Station and Mundijong via Whitby; and
- new route 262 operating between Byford Station and Jarrahdale via Whitby and Mundijong.
On top of these new and modified routes there will be significant improvements to existing peak, off-peak and weekend bus frequencies and operating hours for those in Byford, Whitby and Mundijong. Students catching the bus to Armadale Senior High School, Byford Secondary College, Court Grammar School and Salvado Catholic College will also enjoy a boost to capacity.
The reopened Armadale Station's feeder network will also see some changes, with new route 246 to service the growing suburb of Hilbert, while existing routes 244 and 250 will be amended to better serve Haynes and Hilbert. Existing route 249 will also be upgraded with a new weekday off peak service added.
Unveiling of the new bus routes follows community consultation between 26 May to 16 June 2025.
From today, people will be able to start planning their journeys with the new bus routes, timetables and an updated JourneyPlanner available on the Transperth website.
