Take a break from driving this Australia Day

There will be lots of extra buses, trains and ferries on hand to get revellers to and from the Australia Day Skyworks celebrations this weekend.

Transperth spokesman David Hynes said Australia Day was the busiest day on the Transperth calendar, and stressed the importance of passengers to plan their journey.

“As always, we will be running extra train, bus and ferry services and will have lots of extra staff on hand to help our passengers get to their celebrations,” Mr Hynes said.

“And, to help people get home quicker after the fireworks, we are again splitting the crowd on the busiest train lines – Mandurah and Joondalup.

“As we have done in the past, we are directing Joondalup Line passengers to Perth Underground, and Mandurah Line passengers to Elizabeth Quay Station.

“Midland, Armadale/Thornlie and Fremantle passengers should go to Perth Station.

For about an hour after the fireworks, north-bound Joondalup Line trains will not stop at Elizabeth Quay, and south-bound Mandurah Line trains will not stop at Perth Underground.”

In addition to the usual timetabled buses, there will be extra services to and from the city for Skyworks. Some deviations will be in place because of road closures in the city, South Perth and Kings Park.

Ferry services will operate for only half the day – stopping at noon – on a Saturday timetable.

Mr Hynes said Skyworks was a great opportunity for people to use Transperth’s discounted FamilyRider ticket.

“Our $12.80 FamilyRider allows up to seven people (two standard and five concession fares) to travel all day anywhere on the network,” he said.

“If you plan to travel on a FamilyRider, make sure you leave a little extra time to buy the ticket – they are only available as a cash ticket, and they are in hot demand.

“Don’t forget to plan your journey, be considerate of fellow passengers and have a fantastic day celebrating what makes Australia great.”

For timetable information or to find out more on Transperth services on Australia Day, passengers should visit the Transperth website, download the Transperth App or call the Transperth InfoLine on 13 62 13.
