All-time high passenger satisfaction with Transperth services

  • 95 per cent of train passengers and 91 per cent of bus passengers satisfied with Transperth services
  • Green shoots emerge in patronage data with an additional 1.6 million extra boardings over 2018-19
  • $1.25 million patronage campaign has increased willingness to use public transport

Satisfaction with Transperth services has reached a record high this year, with 95 per cent of train passengers and 91 per cent of bus passengers happy with their public transport services.
 
Green shoots have emerged in patronage data with an additional 1.6 million extra boardings across trains, buses and ferries over 2018-19.
 
This year marks the 30th year of data collection via Transperth's annual Passenger Satisfaction Monitor (PSM), an independent survey of regular public transport users.
 
After more the 4000 face-to-face interviews, the 2019 results found equal all-time high satisfaction ratings among train passengers and bus passengers. CAT bus passengers showed an equal record 97 per cent satisfaction, while ferry passenger satisfaction also remained high at 98 per cent.
 
The McGowan Government has embarked on a $1.25 million patronage campaign aimed at promoting the benefits of public transport to people who are not regular users.
Market research conducted as part of the campaign indicates 26 per cent of infrequent or non-users of public transport are more likely to use public transport after seeing the campaign, with the overall positive impression of Transperth increasing from 71 to 83 per cent among infrequent users and 56 to 65 per cent among non-users.

"The results of this year's Passenger Satisfaction Monitor, along with the rise in patronage, show users are happy with the quality of public transport services.
 
"Our network is considered the best in the nation by passengers, and I look forward to seeing our excellent system continue to get better as METRONET projects come online.
 
"Work is now well underway on a number of new METRONET transport projects, ensuring Australia's best rail network to even more new passengers across the suburbs.
 
"We are also building 246 new railcars locally over the next decade to manage this growth, which will be largely manufactured in a new facility in Bellevue.
 
"So not only will our public transport system lead to less congestion and exciting new communities, it will also support thousands of new jobs through construction and maintenance."
