Escalator Maintenance Program

PUG and EQ escalator update

Work has been complete on nine escalators at Perth Underground and Elizabeth Quay stations. The essential maintenance and service works was part of the escalator maintenance program. Perth Underground Station had four lifts serviced, and Elizabeth Quay Station had five escalators serviced.

Each escalator at Perth Underground took approximately five days to complete, except for Elizabeth Quay where both escalators needed to be closed simultaneously resulting in an expected ten day closure.

Elizabeth Quay Station schedule of works

Escalator 3: October 7 – October 11
Escalator 4 and 5: November 10 – November 24
Escalators 1 and 2: November 24 – December 8

Perth Underground Station schedule of works

Escalator 5: October 20 – October 27
Escalator 4: October 27 – November 3
Escalator 3: November 3 – November 10

To minimise disruption to passengers the works were staged so that only one escalator was replaced at a time, keeping access via stairs, remaining escalators and/or lifts.

Hoarding was in place the night before each scheduled closure to ensure the safety of our patrons.

The full service program was completed in 2020.
