Sioux Tempestt

Title: Currents

Artist/s: Sioux Tempestt

Year: 2025

Category:  Mural

Site: Currambine Station

Location Details: Station pedestrian entry underpass walls and ceilings.

Artist/s Statement:

Currents of water/weather - seasonal flow, wetlands, glistening change, natural movement

Currents of people - daily commuters, human movement through the underpass, the flow of bodies in space

Currents of energy/connection - shared paths, repeated journeys, invisible ties between place and community

Flowing lines and abstract forms reflect the wetlands, lakes and limestone geology that shape the Currambine region.  The design captures the movement of water, seasonal transitions and the daily rhythm of commuters, weaving together natural and human journeys.

Layers of colour and pattern reference native flora and fauna - such as paperbark trees, bulrushes and birdlife - while textured geometric shapes echo the stratifcation of limestone, anchoring the work in the area's unique environment.

Subtle transitions and fine details invite repeated discovery, offering a calming and immersive experience.

Currents transforms the underpass into a contemplative passage - one that celebrates the interconnectedness of land, water and people.
