Untitled (Maylands Station)

Jade Dolman

Title: Untitled (Maylands Station)

Artist/s: Jade Dolman

Year: 2020

Category: Urban Art Mural

Site: Maylands Station

Location Details: Central underpass at station entry

Description:

The imagery in the underpass art installations represent Noongar culture and draws on the history of the Maylands area. The silhouettes of dancing Noongar people remind us how the area was once a rich hunting and camping ground, and a place of celebration for Noongar people. The Noongar creation spirit – the Waugyl – moves throughout the artwork and shows us how the landscape was created. And the Wardung (crow) and the manitj (white cockatoo) silhouettes each represent animals of great spiritual importance to the area, known as a moieties or totemic connections in Noongar culture.
