Travelling Lightly

Steve Tepper

Title: Travelling Lightly

Artist/s: Steve Tepper

Year: 2007

Category: Intergrated

Site: Bull Creek Station

Location Details: Bull Creek Station canopy

Description:

Within the framework of the station canopy, a composition of four sculptural screens is installed on to the canopy’s steel beams. Each ribbon-like aluminium sheet is perforated and painted yellow.

Artist/S Statement:

The starting point was migration and journeys, particularly migration in a local sense (migration being defined as going from one place to another – a journey). The work was inspired by the migration of birds, particularly those that travel to the various lakes in the vicinity of the station, and the way in which some indigenous seeds are dispersed on the wind. At one end of each panel, the composition is quite dense, representing seeds being dispersed on the wind. The design changes across the length of the panel to become a feather shape, again implied with perforations.
