Travelers

Kerise Delcoure

Title: Travelers

Artist/s: Kerise Delcoure

Year: 2021

Category: Panel artwork/ Integrated

Site: Cockburn Station

Location Details: Cockburn Station Tower

Artist/s Statement:

‘Travelers’ features the migration of the Carnaby’s Black-Cockatoos from the Swan Coastal Plain where they feed in summer, to their winter breeding grounds in the Wheatbelt. Flowing lines represent currents of wind and water as birds in flight reflect the liveliness and movement of a community in motion. Repeated water droplets reference the changing of seasons across our diverse Western Australian landscape. This artwork calls attention to Western Australia’s endangered and beloved Carnaby’s Black-Cockatoo, whose population has diminished mostly due to urban development as their feeding and breeding grounds are depleted. These beautiful birds travel in family groups between the regions of our Western Australian landscape, much like the thousands of travelers who pass by the Cockburn Station Tower every week.

The PTA acknowledges Traditional Owners of Country throughout Australia and recognises  the continuing connection to lands, waters and communities. We pay our respect to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultures; and to Elders past and present.
