Scarp

Adam Cruickshank, Pavel Perina and George Domahidy

Title: Scarp

Artist/s: Adam Cruickshank, Pavel Perina and George Domahidy

Year: 2022

Category: Integrated

Site: High Wycombe Station

Location Details: Station entry and platform retaining walls

Description:

The station’s location in the foothills area serves as inspiration for the building’s façade, which features iron oxide-based colours representing the landscape and aluminium panels mimicking the rocky outcrops. At platform level, a 100m-long, 5.5m-high section of the retaining wall features a tessellated pattern of earthy red colours, reflecting the tones of the Darling Scarp.

Artist/s Statement:

The artworks centre on the theme of “a sense of place”, with particular focus on the connection to nearby Darling Scarp. The two artworks create an abstract and dynamic surface that draws inspiration from the topography and granite outcrops of the Scarp. The use of the tessellated patterning unites the two artworks and develops a strong sense of identity and continuity.

The PTA acknowledges Traditional Owners of Country throughout Australia and recognises  the continuing connection to lands, waters and communities. We pay our respect to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultures; and to Elders past and present.
