Title: Moving Colour – Queens Park

Artist/s: Moving Colour Studio (Kyle Hughes-Odgers and Chris Nixon)

Year: 2025

Category: Mural

Site: Long Park, Queens Park Station precinct

Location Details: Viaduct piers and abutment walls

Medium: Acrylic paint on concrete

Artist/s Statement:

The graphic trail features painted treatments on piers and abutments creating a continuous visual thread between Carlisle and Beckenham. Each area reflects its local surroundings, using natural forms and character to encourage exploration and moments of self-discovery. As passengers travel along the line, colour transitions mirror their movement - creating a gradient effect. Like the areas they represent, these sections are individually distinct yet connected as part of a broader, cohesive trail.

The design process began with a site study to investigate the local environment and create a strong sense of place. In the Queens Park area influences include the bobtail lizards and large flat plains. The textures and patterns found across these elements were stylised and abstracted to form a balanced composition. During workshops between Pre-Primary students from St Joseph's School and the artists, playful sketches were collected and incorporated into the graphic trail to be discovered.
