Leaf and Stories

Mark Datodi and Steve Tepper

Title: Leaf and Stories

Artist/s: Mark Datodi and Steve Tepper

Year: 2022

Category: Integrated

Site: Redcliffe Station

Location Details: Along the walls and ceiling at concourse level

Description:

The two-part installation comprises of a suspended frame over the eastern void between the platform and concourse levels, and 12 wall-mounted leaves engraved with stories provided by residents. Aluminium branches and leaves create colourful focal points within the building, while wall-mounted leaves scattered throughout the station contain etched stories and memories of living in the area on display as you walk past.

Artist/s Statement:

The branch and leaf like forms of the work are richly symbolic: through their branches, trees are seeking light, nourishment and freedom. Branches are amazingly nimble and grow in gravity defying contortions to reach out, ever extending themselves, finding ways around obstacles to seek out what they need. The leaf signifies truth, hope and vitality of life.

The PTA acknowledges Traditional Owners of Country throughout Australia and recognises  the continuing connection to lands, waters and communities. We pay our respect to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultures; and to Elders past and present.
