Keip

David Jones and Moving Colour Studio (Kyle Hughes-Odgers and Chris Nixon)

Title: Keip

Artist/s: David Jones and Moving Colour Studio (Kyle Hughes-Odgers and Chris Nixon)

Year: 2025

Category: Mural

Site: Between Cannington Station and Beckenham Station

Location Details: Noisewall

Medium: Acrylic paint on concrete

Artist/s Statement:

The mural along this wall that stretches between Cannington and Beckenham is a collaboration between Moving Colour Studio and David Jones. The design depicts the central creation of the nearby waterways represented by the abstract markings of the Waugul (Serpent), with reflections spreading outward toward the stations. The colours shift along the wall creating a gradient that links to the broader graphic trail. Each end of the wall is a mirrored reflection of water markings revealing the Noongar word, Keip, meaning fresh water.

The Public Transport Authority acknowledge that Noongar languages are oral in nature and that one word can be spelt in multiple ways.

The PTA acknowledges Traditional Owners of Country throughout Australia and recognises  the continuing connection to lands, waters and communities. We pay our respect to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultures; and to Elders past and present.

Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people are advised that this site may contain images or names of people who are deceased.
