Following the Flow

Emily Jackson

Title: Following the Flow

Artist/s: Emily Jackson

Year: 2023

Site: Bayswater Station

Location Detail: Artwork is applied to the walls and entry to the Leake Street underpass to the west of the station.

Medium: Vinyl and acrylic paint

Description:

Emily Jackson is a Western Australian printmaker and artist who showcases the natural world and landscapes in her work.

For this piece she has combined prints created by students from Bayswater Primary School with her own etchings, lino prints and monoprints of flora and fauna. Central to the narrative is the Swan River and Baigup Wetlands. Intertwined with Noongar cultural elements such as reference to the six seasons are historical maps and photographs of Bayswater to symbolise the colonisation of Whadjuk Country.

There is always something new to discover about the relationship between humanity and the environment through this rich tapestry of plants, animals, rivers, paths, and meeting places that define moments in Bayswater’s history.

Images sourced from the collections of the State Library of Western Australia and reproduced with the permission of the Library Board of Western Australia and from the Bayswater Historical Society.

The PTA acknowledges Traditional Owners of Country throughout Australia and recognises  the continuing connection to lands, waters and communities. We pay our respect to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultures; and to Elders past and present.
