Boorn

Jarni McGuire

Title: Boorn

Artist/s: Jarni McGuire

Year: 2024

Site: Alkimos Station

Location Detail: Artwork is integrated within the ceiling over the main concourse from the station entry to the platform access.

Medium: Anodised aluminium and light box

Description:

Jarni McGuire’s inspiration for this artwork is the Melaleuca paperbark tree, found throughout Alkimos. Just like the culture and stories of Noongar people, the Melaleuca bark has many layers. As the paper bark peels away, we can see the heart of the tree is Waugul, the rainbow serpent who created the fresh waterways and connects all lakes and water systems. At its centre, the intensity of the artwork changes to represent the spirit, energy, and motion of the Waugal, dipping up and down, from one water body to another.

The PTA acknowledges Traditional Owners of Country throughout Australia and recognises  the continuing connection to lands, waters and communities. We pay our respect to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultures; and to Elders past and present.

Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people are advised that this site may contain images or names of people who are deceased.
