Work will soon begin to construct an additional eastbound bus priority lane across the Causeway roundabout in East Perth.
The new 105m bus lane will help to reduce delays experienced by Transperth bus services travelling east between Plain Street and Victoria Park Transfer Station.
Currently, buses servicing stops 1038 and 1039 on Adelaide Terrace have to merge straight after leaving the stops to enter the Causeway roundabout. Due to the timing of signals at the intersection of Adelaide Terrace and the Causeway, this restricts the number of buses that can enter the roundabout per green light phase. As a result, buses regularly have to wait through two green light phases before they have a chance to enter the roundabout. The new bus lane will allow buses to merge smoothly, reducing the likelihood of buses having to wait for a second green light before departing.
Construction is expected to start in October 2019 and continue for around eight weeks.
The project will include:
- Construction of an additional 105m bus lane across the Causeway roundabout, directly south of the existing bus lane, which merges into a single lane before crossing the Causeway Bridge
- Changes to signal phases at the intersection of Adelaide Terrace and the Causeway roundabout to improve the efficiency of bus and general traffic movements through the area
