The $11.8 million Automatic Train Protection System Upgrade will
upgrade existing train operations technology with a modern equivalent.
The system upgrade provides a more reliable and safer service for train operations.
This project will involve the design, installation and commissioning
of ATP encoders at a number of locations, and the replacement or
reconfiguration of existing equipment across the rail network.
Given the work is to upgrade back-end systems there will be little
impact for passengers. The majority of the work will take place within
the rail corridor to minimise disruptions to both road and rail users.
The work is expected to be complete by 2019.
