December 2014 update

This month, referral of the project to governing bodies, the state Department of Environmental Affairs and the Federal Department of the Environment, marks a milestone for the project. Crucially, in early December, Cabinet approved the drafting of the Rain Enabling Act, which will allow the rail project to be constructed.

Industry engagement has been a strong focus in the lead up to the formal procurement process in 2015. A recent industry briefing was attended by near 300 people representing local, national and international companies interested in bidding for the Design and Construct contract, and also those interested in sub contracted work.

Also this month, the City of Belmont – in conjunction with the Public Transport Authority and the Department of Planning – has established a Community Reference Group with the residents of Belmont and Redcliffe. The group will help to inform the City’s Vision Plan or ‘DA6’ and preferred final positioning of the Airport West Station along Brearley Avenue.
