Improved Public Transport

In April 2016 the major contract for the Forrestfield-Airport Link project was awarded to Salini Impregilo - NRW Joint Venture. The $1.176b contract will see SI-NRW design and construct the rail tunnels and three new stations, as well as maintain some infrastructure for a ten year period, once the project is complete in 2020.

The Forrestfield Line will integrate with Perth’s existing rail network and deliver:

• an 8.5km rail extension from the Midland Line east of Bayswater to Forrestfield via Perth Airport
• three new stations – Belmont and Forrestfield (both with associated park-and-ride and bus transfer facilities) and Airport Central Station
• expanded and new bus feeder services.

The new rail line will streamline the journey from Forrestfield to the CBD. Instead of spending up to 45 minutes in the car, the journey can be taken as a quick, 20-minute trip by rail. The improved feeder bus service to Forrestfield Station will also halve the time it takes to travel from Kalamunda to the CBD from up to 70 minutes in peak hour to just over half an hour. Train services from Bayswater to Perth will also double during peak periods, making it easy for everyone to get around.

Bus feeder networks

The journey to connect our eastern suburbs to the rail network is going to rely on an ongoing relationship with the local community across the rail route and in the wider network. Transperth has plans for bus services that will support the Forrestfield-Airport Link and expects to consult the community about these services 6 to 12 months before project is complete in 2020. In this way, we can ensure priority is given to services delivering the maximum community benefit.
