Do you imagine you’ll still be in the same job? Well that’s the case for Transperth third generation train driver Arthur Austin, who’s been a driver for 50 years!
While he’s planning on retiring at the end of the year – just after edging out his own father and grandfather’s service records of 48 and 47 years, respectively– Arthur took some time out this week to chat to Channel 7’s Sunrise program about what he loves about his job.
Arthur started working on the rail network in 1975 at 19 years old and has seen quite a bit of change on our network over the years. His grandfather and father both drove steam locomotives and Arthur drove diesel engines before the electric trains of today.
Always ready with a smile and whistle, Arthur is a train fanatic who loves his job – even after 50 years! Hopefully you will be as lucky with your chosen career.
