This holidays, make public transport your journey, not your destination

This holidays, make public transport your journey, not your destination

Friday, 12 June 2015

With school holidays just weeks away, it’s a no-brainer that you’re getting excited about sleep-ins and long days of hanging out with your mates (okay, and maybe less excited about a bit of studying).

But when you don’t have a plan for how to spend your two weeks off, it can be easy to fall into the trap of not doing much at all, and spending your mid-semester break, well… bored.

When you’ve got nothing to do, making bad decisions is so much easier.

Whether it’s getting rowdy on the train, mucking around by the tracks, or tagging the station – if you’re waiting around with nowhere to go and no plans for the week, stupid decisions can start to seem like good ideas.

Trains and buses are an awesome resource; they can get you all across Perth with just the swipe of a student SmartRider – and no relying on your parents to find time to drive you.

When was that time you last visited your mate who changed schools and moved away to the other side of the river?

When did you last visit a different beach to your local?

Why haven’t you finally got around to going to that rock climbing wall with your mates?

Or taken your girlfriend on a date somewhere different?

You always talk about doing these things, but never get around to it, and then boredom strikes and you can’t be bothered.

Remember, the train, bus, or stations are there to be part of your journey, not your destination.

There’s so much going on around our city, and you won’t get study breaks forever, so isn’t it time to make the most of them?

Check out what is going on around Perth for the school holidays and remember to use the Transperth journey planner to make sure your public transport journey goes smoothly.
