It’s the million dollar question many teachers and youth trainers ask themselves; how do I engage my at-risk young people in programs that are relevant to them. Public transport safety may not seem like the most engaging subject but for many young people it is directly relevant to their everyday lives; thanks to public transport they can get around on the weekend, or to a mate’s house.
The Right Track education program seeks to start conversations around negative behaviours that they may have seen or been part of across the network, or discussing what their rights are as public transport users. Discussion and activities based on visual learning strategies help to encourage positive interactions and also build respect so that travelling on public transport becomes a much more enjoyable option for everyone.
The program links in with multiple agencies, including collaboration with School Drug Education and Road Aware’s (SDERA) popular Keys for Life program and is mapped to Certificate II in General Education for Adults, making it easy for teachers to incorporate into their existing class structure.
