Make Your Journey Count with the Freewheeler App

Make Your Journey Count with the Freewheeler App

Wednesday, 13 January 2016

The summer holidays are always a great time to get out and about and enjoy the sun, especially with Perth’s great beaches and cafés. So rather than waiting for someone to drop you off at a mates house, why don’t you use the latest technology to not only help you get around, but earn free stuff while you’re at it?

With the Freewheeler app you can do just that. The app - which will be launching in February - rewards people for using public transport as well as cycling and walking. Each time you use the app you earn points, which can then be used at participating businesses. The app will start its trial period in Fremantle, with up to 15 local businesses already on board and ready to give away freebies to people that earn points through the app.

The app uses your phone’s activity sensors and GPS to work out how you’re moving, and can distinguish between walking to get to your car, and walking to jump on a bus or train. The app also uses the public transport database to tell whether you are in a car or using public transport.

This is a great way of getting out and enjoying the sunshine, while also getting exercise and socialising with your friends. Use the Transperth Journey Planner to plan your route using public transport. Why not catch the train to Fremantle, then jump on a bus and explore the many great beaches around the suburb. Not only are you helping the environment by not using a car, you are also earning yourself free food – and who doesn’t like free food?

So jump on board in February and give the app a shot – your wallet and the environment will like you better for it.
