Have fun but remember to stay safe this summer

Have fun but remember to stay safe this summer

Tuesday, 17 November 2015

Summer is approaching and the school holidays are not so far away, so you’re bound to be looking forward to hanging out with friends, making plans and having lots of fun.

When you’re with your friends, it can often seem easier to make a bad decision because that’s what everyone else in your group is doing, rather than to stand up and say that something is wrong.  A bad decision could be that you take a short cut by crossing the train tracks or decide to graffiti at the station because you’re bored. As rail safety ambassador Jonathan Beninca would say “a good friend is someone who will tell you when you’re doing something wrong” and a “good friend will look out for you”.

Be a good friend and remember who is a good friend to you. Don’t get into dangerous situations because your so called mates tell you that it’s cool, or that you’re a wuss if you don’t do it.

Watch this video from Rail Life in the UK which shows exactly what can happen when a group of friends make bad decisions around the rail network. Don’t let this or something similar happen to you or your friends.

If used properly, buses and trains can be a great resource for you over the summer to get yourself across Perth without relying on lifts from parents or carers.

Why not have a look at what’s going on in Perth over the holidays, plan your journey using the Transperth journey planner and go out with friends, have fun and come home safely.
