Today marks the start of Injury Control Council of Western Australia (ICCWA)’s Community Safety Month, which aims to highlight the importance of creating safer spaces to live, work and play.
Running each October in WA, Community Safety Month encourages local communities to get involved in a number of free safety events across the Perth metro area.
To help celebrate the month, Right Track will be participating in the City of Armadale’s Community Safety Day, held on Sunday October 19 at Minnawarra Park in Armadale between 10am and 3pm.
The event will include a “passport” system which encourages young people to visit each of the attractions and complete the activity on offer to receive a stamp on their passport. Once all activities are complete they then go in the draw to win a prize.
Right Track’s activity will offer a taster of the Urban Art program giving young people a chance to learn from experienced street artists the safe and legal way to express themselves using aerosol. This will showcase the difference between legal and socially-acceptable street art, and graffiti vandalism.
Right Track’s partner program for primary aged students, Get on Board, will also be supporting Community Safety Month by participating in the City of Melville’s Little Hands Festival in Leeming. A bus will be on site and a dinosaur themed activity will be engaging young people in bus safety.
