Baby, It's cold outside!

Baby, It's cold outside!

Monday, 7 July 2014

The weather may be looking blustery outside, but we’re not the only ones who face winter public transport challenges:

 - In Yatsuk, Russia, believed to be the coldest city in the world, the average temperature in January is around -45C and can get as low as -65C. Public transport is only possible by bus.

 - Last year Britain experienced one of its worst winters, with numerous train delays due to land slips – where the ground underneath train tracks essentially washed away.

 - In March this year, Parisian authorities were forced to make public transport free to reduce excessive air pollution caused by winter weather conditions and a lack of wind.

 - Of course, some forms of transport need cold weather to work – Wisconsin’s Ice Angel is a wind sled which ferries residents of Madeline Island to and from the mainland when the ice is too hard for boats, but not hard enough to drive across.
