Lift and escalator upgrade

In June 2013, the PTA began a $7.1 million project to replace lifts and escalators at five stations along the Joondalup line, and some at Perth Station. This will ensure a more reliable service for station users at:

Works are currently under way at:

Perth Station

Replacement work has now commenced on the last of the four escalators (platform 6/7) in the program and iis due for completion in late 2016.

One escalator will continue to operate during the works, however if the escalator you require is out of action, please use the stairs or lift.

About the works
A number of lifts and escalators along the Joondalup Line were installed when the line was built in the early 1990s. Now more than 20 years old, they have reached the end of operational life and have become increasingly unreliable.

Replacing the escalators and lifts will minimise long-term passenger inconvenience and allows a much larger lift with wider doors to be installed for improved pram and wheelchair access.

As each lift and each escalator takes approximately three months to replace, the PTA will stage the work to ensure only one escalator or lift is out of service at any one time.

Where possible, the PTA will ensure the escalator going up from the platforms will be kept running and some of the works will be done at night.

The full upgrade project is expected to be completed by late 2016.
