Lift and escalator upgrade

Lift and escalator upgrade

In June 2013, the PTA began a $7.1 million project to replace 6 lifts and 14 escalators at five stations along the Joondalup line, and some at Perth Station. The project is now complete and will ensure a more reliable service for passengers at Joondalup, Whitfords, Warwick, Stirling, Glendalough, and Perth stations.

About the works

A number of lifts and escalators along the Joondalup Line were installed when the line was built in the early 1990s. Now more than 20 years old, they have reached the end of operational life and have become increasingly unreliable.

Replacing the escalators and lifts will minimise long-term passenger inconvenience and allows a much larger lift with wider doors to be installed for improved pram and wheelchair access.

The full upgrade project was completed in December 2016.
