The PTA has created a west-bound (away from the CBD) bus-only lane along Mounts Bay Road from Hackett Drive to Broadway.
The new bus-only lane will help Transperth buses bypass congestion and therefore provide a more reliable service to our passengers.
Completed in October 2015, the work included:
- Reducing the median strip between Hackett Drive and Winthrop Avenue to create a new traffic lane
- Modifying the Mounts Bay-Broadway intersection
- Road resurfacing
How the bus priority lane works
The Mounts Bay Road Bus Priority Lane is a full-time, bus-only lane. Motorists, excluding taxis, cannot park, stop or use the bus lane, except to exit or enter a side street or driveway.
When entering the bus only lane, you may drive for up to 100 metres in the bus lane before merging into the main traffic.
When exiting the bus only lane, you may drive for up to 100 metres in the bus lane before turning into a side street or driveway.
Using a bus lane other than as outlined above is illegal and may result in a $100 fine.
