The two tunnel boring machines for the Forrestfield-Airport Link have now reached Airport Central Station - about a quarter of the way into their 8km journey to Bayswater.
In one of the project's biggest milestones to date, TBM Grace broke through into the underground station box at Airport Central Station on the evening of Tuesday May 8, 2018.
TBM Grace resumed tunnelling this month and has now successfully installed 1034 rings. The restart follows the completion of a comprehensive review into tunnelling operations.
Tunnel boring machines (TBMs) are large machines that excavate below the ground surface, while simultaneously installing concrete lining units to build a tunnel.
On March 28 the second of the Forrestfield-Airport Link’s two tunnel-boring machines was temporarily halted.
