The site around where a petrol station operated in Gosnells between 1984 and 2002 is being tested for contaminants.
Lot 4212 Albany Highway, adjacent to the Gosnells Police Station and railway line, was leased and operated as Three Sisters Service Station before being closed and demolished in 2002.
Testing in 2009 and 2011 revealed that some seepage has occurred. To determine the extent of the contamination and what clean-up is required, further water and soil investigations are being done.
Soil and groundwater are taken by drilling wells around the site. Surrounding business and residential property owners have been fully consulted. Work will start at the end of August 2011 and will take about two weeks.
