Stage 3 of work to conserve Fremantle Station has begun.
The building, which reached its centenary in 2007, will have its Donnybrook stone facade conserved. Scaffolding will be erected along the front of the station to allow a specialist team to work on the facade over the next 15 months. Work will then progress to the platform side of the station building.
Previous stages of work included conservation of the entrance facade and an upgrade of the electrical systems.
Though there will be no disruption to scheduled services, bus patrons should look for changes to the bus stop positions at the front of the station.
Fremantle Station was included on the Heritage Council of Western Australia’s Register of Heritage Places as a permanent entry in 2001 and is protected by the Heritage of Western Australia Act 1990.
