Safety and Security

The PTA is committed to providing a safe and secure environment for all of our passengers, and has invested heavily in a range of safety and security measures.

At stations and onboard services

Initiatives in recent years include:

  • A sophisticated CCTV system with more than 1300 cameras at bus and train stations feeding into the central monitoring room, monitored 24/7.
  • Cameras on all trains and the majority of buses
  • Approximately 400 transit officers and other security and customer-service personnel
  • SmartRider fare-gates at 19 major train stations
  • A major upgrade of station lighting
  • Emergency call buttons, linked back to the central monitoring room, on all trains and platforms
  • Long-range PA systems on train stations, enabling central monitoring room officers to speak to people displaying anti-social behaviour

Security for your car

The PTA offers passengers two types of secure parking at selected train stations.

Pay 'n' Display car parks are fenced and patrolled by car park attendants between 7am and 9pm Monday to Friday excluding public holidays. A flat fee of $2 a day, or part thereof, applies. These car parks are available at: Bull Creek, Clarkson, Cockburn Central, Edgewater, Greenwood, Mandurah, Midland, Murdoch Rockingham, Stirling, Thornlie, Warnbro, Warwick, and Whitfords stations.

Lock 'n' Ride car parks are fenced car parks that are locked between 9am and 3.30pm Monday to Friday excluding public holidays. This parking is free of charge and is available at: Armadale, Bassendean, Bayswater, Cannington, Glendalough, Gosnells, Kenwick, Maddington, North Fremantle and Queens Park stations.

Cars can be released from the secured area when the gates are locked by using the emergency phone on the train station platform or by calling 9326 2081. A release fee will apply for this service, and there may be a short delay while a PTA employee is dispatched to release your vehicle. Free parking bays are still available in non-fenced areas.

At most train stations there are also a number of free bays.
