The Public Sector Commission coordinates the Business Traineeship Program which involves candidates, younger 25 years of age, interested in and available for metropolitan-based Business Traineeships in the WA Public Sector.

Depending on organisational requirements, the Public Transport Authority recruits a small number of business trainees at the beginning of each year.  For more information on how to obtain a traineeship, go to www.gettingajob.wa.gov.au

Interested in becoming a PTA Business Trainee?

This is a fantastic opportunity to get paid while receiving training. Our 12 month traineeships allow you to grow personally and gain experience that can be used throughout your working life.

What’s involved?

During your traineeship you will complete a Certificate II or III in business through on-the-job training. On completion of your traineeship you may become eligible for ongoing employment within the PTA or alternatively will be placed in the DPC pool which offers Level 1 positions that arise in all government agencies.

As a trainee, you will learn how to:

  • Perform reception and administration duties;
  • Work in a team and contribute ideas;
  • Use a range of software and technology;
  • Use a range of office equipment; and
  • Deliver excellent customer service.

You’ll earn between $245.10 to $569.70 per week, depending on your age and number of years out of school. The program consists of work rotations in various divisions of the PTA, giving you organisation-wide experience.

Eligibility Criteria

To be considered for a business traineeship, you need to be:

  • Under 25 years of age
  • An Australian citizen or permanent resident currently living in Western Australia

These traineeships are not for people who already have a Certificate III or above in business. If you already have a qualification that’s not related to a business traineeship (from TAFEWA or University) you can apply, but young people who don’t have any qualification will have preference.

Applications

When traineeships become available they are advertised under the advertised vacancy section of the PTA website and on www.jobs.wa.gov.au .
